Pilates is a safe and effective method of exercise and clinical rehabilitation that focuses on muscular balance through the correct activation of the powerhouse – or core.  Pilates is great for those who wish to enhance their overall wellness and physical fitness. Benefits of Pilates

Pilates began in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, whom the method is named after.  He attributed the practice of Pilates to 6 key principles:

  • Breath

  • Concentration

  • Control

  • Precision

  • Centre

  • Flow

These 6 principles form the foundation of Pilates and allow the many benefits of the methodology to be experienced.  For both the physical and mental wellbeing of an individual these benefits include:

Improved Flexibility: Pilates focuses on stretching and elongating muscles, which helps increase flexibility and range of motion.

Increased Core Strength: All Pilates exercises originate from the powerhouse.  We use these core muscles which are the centre of our body, to move the limbs, muscles and spine which consequently help to improve our posture and stability.

Reduced Stress: Pilates incorporates breathing techniques and mindful movement, which can help reduce stress and improve mental clarity.

Low-Impact Exercise: Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise, which means it's not as stressful on the joints as other exercises methods.

Improved Balance: Pilates exercises require concentration, control and precision.  By practicing Pilates regularly an individual will improve overall balance and coordination.
